Most nationalities require a visa; obtain in advance from a Libyan embassy. Tourist visas are rare; business or invitation visas are more common.

Arabic is the main language; English is not widely spoken. Learn basic Arabic phrases or use a translation app.

Libyan Dinar (LYD). Credit cards are rarely accepted; carry cash in small denominations.

Alcohol is prohibited in Libya due to Islamic law. Do not attempt to bring or consume alcohol.

Lightweight, modest clothing, sunscreen, hat, reusable water bottle, and a scarf for women. A power adapter (Type D/L) is needed.
